Dear Members:

From time to time, we hear from our subscribers voicing concerns about a particular performance. We always welcome feedback from the audience, good and bad, and feel it gives us an opportunity to learn about their preferences and will help us do a better job of picking performances in the future. We have a general set of guidelines that the board uses in picking talent for our season each year that includes the following:

Getting the best talent  we can for the money

Getting a broad range of talent, that will appeal to the many different groups that we have attending our performances. Especially the younger crowd that we need to attract to keep our  association strong for the future, and our long term subscribers who have supported us for  many years

Bringing groups to the Marshalltown area that will work with the kids in the school system to help them realize that music is something that they can enjoy the rest of their lives, either as a performer or someone who appreciates watching someone else perform.

In keeping with the direction set over 70 years ago when the organization was established, we will always feature performers from the classical category that our booking agent (Live On Stage) brings to their showcase each year.

What we hope this means is that most of our subscribers will like most of our performances. We think that recent history has shown that we've been successful with this as our base of subscribers has remained very strong, and we've sold out the season each of the last 3 years. Unfortunately, this does not mean that everybody will like all the performances.

Even for the board members, every year there are performances that not all of us like, but we commit to putting together a season with the broadest appeal, following the guidelines listed above. We hope that our subscribers will appreciate this and remember that even if they don't like a show or two in a given season, the overall season is still such a great bargain, that it remains a great investment for our members.

Thanks again for your support and your feedback, and enjoy the rest of what promises to be a great season.

Bill and Vicki Fitzgerald
Co-President's of the Board
